As background, in 2001 a movement, named the Free State Project was created to try and encourage 20,000 libertarians to move to a single low-population state in order to make the state a stronghold of libertarian ideas. In 2003, New Hampshire was selected, not only because of its relatively small size, but because the state was also liberty minded. The Cato Institute’s: Freedom in the Fifty States has ranked New Hampshire as number 1 or 2 since the inception of its rankings. Coincidently, our neighboring state of Indiana has consistently ranked in the top ten and currently sits at #3 overall. If you’re keeping track, Ohio has gone from a low of 44 in 2002, to a current rank of 25th and climbing.
Joe Combs and I have not signed up to move to New Hampshire, but have obviously decided to stay in Harrison, OH, run for city council as Libertarians and ask the question: What does a free city look like? During the city’s Taste of Harrison we asked some of our libertarian minded friends and members of the Harrison area community this question. Check out their responses. We would encourage you to listen what they had to say and think about what your response might be.
As we campaign this October, there are few questions that we will be asking of you. Would you like a free city? What does a free city look like? What freedoms do you feel you’ve lost since you were a child?  Reach out to us, we are curious to hear your answers.
